New York is the first state in the country to make expensive neuropyschological testing available to insured families of New York. As of January 1, 2025 private insurers must pay for neuropyscological testing if a child is suspected of dyslexia. This evaluation is the first step towards understanding how a child processes language and is needed to receive tailored instruction for leaning success. This will be a game changer for many families as the cost of these tests can be pricey and out of reach for many. Under the Dyslexia Diagnosis Access Act, signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, was a broader package of bills aimed to make child care costs for children more affordable.
